Tom Kenny is associate professor of linguistics in the department of British & American Studies at Nagoya University of Foreign Studies (NUFS) in Japan.
He also serves as
- director of the university's Speaking Lab
- coordinator of the department's Oral Communication Program
- executive producer of The NUFS Podcast

You've probably heard Tom's voice many times on nationwide radio and TV, and in various places like Toyota's Main Showroom, or while waiting on train platforms for Nagoya's monorail (the Linimo) or Nagoya Rail's Centrair Express. Over the last 15 years in Japan, in addition to doing voiceovers & narrations, he's had regular radio programs too.
Before that, in America, he was a Radio DJ/Personality for nearly 15 years -- Rock, pop, country, easy-listening, you name it.
Nice Talking with You is used by high schools & universities all over Japan, and is in its second edition. Nice Talking with You 2! comes with a DVD of NUFS students using "conversation strategies." The next textbook in this series is under development with Macmillan Languagehouse.
Listening Advantage 1 and Listening Advantage 2 are now available, published by Cengage Learning. It has a lot of listening activities for in-class & at-home study. Units combine listening strategy instruction with conversation strategy training. There's also a language focus & pronunciation sections too.
